Apogee's First International Music Festival in Odessa Presents 33 Awards and Scholarships to Gifted Young Musicians From Four Nations

The Apogee Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of human excellence in the performing arts, has provided 33 awards and grants to elite young musicians from four nations at its 2006 international music festival in Odessa.

Apogee festival posters appeared throughout the region to attract attention to gifted young artists.
The four day festival also was covered by all major Ukrainian TV, radio and print media.
New York and Odessa, October 3, 2006 (RNWire, eMediaWire, PRWeb) – The Apogee Foundation has concluded its first international music festival in Odessa by providing 33 awards and grants to elite young musicians and their instructors. The awards include 17 Excellence Awards, which are based on extraordinary ability and promise of future distinction, 15 Performance Awards, which were based on outstanding performances throughout the course of the festival, and one new Regional Award, a type of award which is designed to assist gifted artists from specific geopolitical regions. Coverage of the festival was broadcast on all national Ukrainian television channels as well as by local and national radio and print media. A thirty minute documentary about the festival is now being produced, which also will soon be broadcast on national TV.
Chubachin and co-Rising Star Artur Naziullin are two of Apogee's most promising Merit Scholars studying at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory Music College in Moscow, Russia.
Two of Apogee's most promising Merit Scholars from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory Music College in Moscow, Arseniy Chubachin (cello) and Artur Naziullin (clarinet), also were awarded the Foundation's Rising Star Award for young professionals judged to be rising to the top of their professions. This award carries with it an additional financial grant and professional career support from the Foundation.
The festival jury also named Pavel Kupin, an internationally renowned cello professor from the Odessa Conservatory and the Stolyarsky State Music School, as a receipient of Apogee's Achievement Award. Achievement Awards are provided to instructors who have consistently realized the potential of world class performing artists over the course of their careers.
In addition to these 17 Excellence Awards, the festival jury provided 15 Performance Awards in recognition of the extraordinary talent demonstrated in the course of the four days of events. Performance Awards are provided based on outstanding cycles of performances at events overseen by the Foundation, and include both international recognition and a one-time grant. The Performance Award recipients selected at the festival included 10 of the above 14 Merit Scholars as well as five additional laureates: Maria Kovalyova (piano and composition), Sergey Maiboroda (violin), Evgeny Popov (bassoon), Alina Steblovskaya (piano), and Yulia Zaporozhets (piano and composition).

Apogee implements Regional Awards programs in eight geopolitical regions stretching across 11 time zones.

At the festival's closing ceremonies, the Foundation announced that it would provide an additional Regional Award, the Belarus Award for Excellence in the Performing Arts, to Yuri Wassilewski (violin). Apogee's Regional Awards are provided to gifted performing artists from designated geopolitical regions in order to promote local arts training and to offer high potential candidates opportunities for international support and recognition.
Zadorozhnuik was selected as the outstanding performer from among dozens of world class performances in the festival's first round.
Apogee's award jury consisted of Apogee President Kenneth Schneider, Stolyarsky State Music School Director and Deputy Director Evgeny Lisuk and Tatyana Markova, Kharkov State Music School Director Tamara Sengukova, and Odessa Conservatory Professor and Head of the Department of Tourism and Culture for the Odessa Province of Ukraine, Yuri Kuznetsov. The festival was underwritten by a generous gift from former Apogee board members Dr. Bernard and Mrs. Marjorie
Schneider.
